~The beginning

Hello and welcome to my very first blog! I’m so excited you are here reading this.

I wanted to share a little bit about how I started my love for photography. When I was a little girl I remember my dad always bringing his camera around with him, especially when he went on trips. Back then, of course, we didn’t have digital. By the time we received the photos back from being developed I was so excited, it was like Christmas. I would sit and look at every picture he had taken and was in awe that I got to see what he saw through that lens on his trip, especially if I wasn’t able to go with him. That was such a treat.

I remember the smell of his leather bag that carried his camera and the rolls and rolls of film he would get developed. When he brought over his camera for me to take this picture you see, that smell was still there, years later, and a flood of memories came rushing back to me. The excitement of seeing what he saw has now rolled over to how I feel about my work and what I see as a photographer. What am I going to see through my glass on your session?

Another reason I love being behind this camera is because moments caught still with your family are so important. I remember really appreciating that after loved ones had passed. Remembering how thankful I was to have the images I captured. The pure innocence of a child before the world tells them they need to be a certain person, the beauty of a couple that just fell in love, the wisdom of a couple that have been together for years that can be passed down to those who are just figuring it out in marriage, in life, in how to be a parent. These are all things I love to see come through my work. It’s not just a photo, it’s a feeling. It’s your life.

I hope as you look back at your photos from me you are able to have that feeling… a feeling maybe you didn’t realize at the time, the feeling of family and love, raw emotion no matter what that might be. My work is not for me to push the button on my camera as you sit and smile. It’s for me to find that feeling as you bond together in that moment.

Thank you for letting me share just a glimpse of my past and love for what I do and what I believe is so very important.
